New Developer Economics Report Released

Vision Mobile, a leading market analysis and strategy firm, announced today the release its new report Developer Economics Q3 2013 – State of the Developer Nation. The 59-page report is based on a survey taken by over 6,000 respondents from more than 115 countries. SponsorPay is proud to have supported Vision Mobile with the survey. The results provide valuable information for developers including the state of the mobile ecosystem, developer mindshare, monetization trends, revenue models and developer tools.

Here are five key insights from the latest report:

  • Android continues to lead mobile developer mindshare – 71% of developers are developing for Android, followed by iOS at 56%.

  • HTML5 has become the mobile development technology of choice – 52% of the developer population uses HTML5 technologies for developing mobile apps.  

  • As reflected in past surveys, Windows Phone continues to hold developer interest – 35% of developers are considering Windows Phone. However, this is 12 percentage points lower than in Q1 2013.

  • Developers today are multi-platform – on average 2.9 platforms at one time. Though not all platforms are equally important to developers, 84% of mobile developers are using iOS, Android or HTML5 as their primary platform.

  • iOS continues to be the most revenue generating platform and is ahead of Android developer monthly revenues by a margin of 10%. The chart below provides additional insights:
